Changed the oil at end of breakin period last spring ...... changed air filters at least 3 times.Changed oil this spring ..... new plug and filter.Mower starts
at first pull.Love this mower, but very disappointed with oil problem. And NO .... the oil is not over full

Sounds like a internal problem. Bad piston rings or piston. Take the head off and take a look at the cylinder walls. You might want to check the valve guides when you have that head off also.

Craftsman didn't make the engine. If that brothers you don't buy your next mower with whatever engine your Craftsman has. Sears sells a good mower. Is it worth repairing is something I don't know. Are you going to do your own work? or take it to a shop? A year and a haft old mower, if it was mine I would repair it but I do my own work also.

Year and a half old mower may have some warranty left on it. So having sears look at it may not be a bad thing.
