After replacing gas filter, a new leak is coming from a place i can not see. One suggestion was the carburetor is leaking. Does that make sense?

why did you replace the filter? You may have pulled or broken a line if the leak is new.

If your fuel line is old it may be leaking from any yanking you did to replace the filter. You need to trace where the gas is coming from.

Remove the carb, or loosen it and slide it back.
because of epa regulations they overflow into the engine if the float valve fails
The overflow hole is the breather which is on the engine side of the carb

Replace all the fuel lines from tank to carb. If you have leaks they need replacing anyway.
