Craftsman 26.5 Four cycle trimmer wiring question

I am rebuilding this 74092 and was wondering in relationship to the run/stop function, does it stop when the circuit is maintained or broken?

The switch is good, wiring has good continuity and spark remains regardless of switch position. This is odd, so reaching out to maintain sanity….
