I put a new drive belt on after old one broke. Now it will barely move, like the belt is slipping and I can't move the shift lever while engine is running. I made a clutch linkage adjustment but it didn't help. I did notice that the drive belt was moving with the shift lever in neutral and clutch depressed. According to the manual the belt is suppose to stop with clutch pedal depressed and shift lever in neutral. Any suggestions ?

Did you use oem belt from sears? Post model number, number above not working.

Enter complete model number, then parts, then drive belt and see if numbers match.

No it wasn't from sears but it's the right belt 37x65 / 4L300 1/2" x 30" I even measured it to be sure.I opened up the trans-axle for a quick look but decided to wait until tomorrow to get into to it.At a glance the gears looked good but there may be a problem with the shift plate assembly. The mower is a 502.255092 which takes a 37x65.

Sounds like the belt is to small or on wrong.

The belt still being tight and moving with the clutch in would not have anything to do with a bad transaxle.

When running a belt that is to small it makes it hard to shift the transaxle with the engine running.

From what I can find you have the right belt. For a 10hp 30 inch rer. I would take the belt back off and see if it can go on some other way. Maybe it is on the wrong side of a idler pulley.
