Courage 20HP running extremely loud, some popping

Fairly new to working on these type of engines, any direction would be greatly appreciated.

2007 SV600s in a troyB Bronco.

Mower sat for 6 months. would not start.

New spark plug, oil/filter, air filter, fuel filter, new gas, in tank carb cleaner.

Starts and cuts- but the system is running extremely loud, has some popping, occasional stall after start. mower gets louder with blades engaged.
I noticed fuel filter us not full when running engine. Engine runs hot.

I am not sure what to trouble shoot? thinking of ordering new carb for $30.

That is classic blown head gasket symptoms with a leak between the cylinder & the outside world.

Thanks for the advise.
I ordered and received the head gasket repair kit. I will give it a go this weekend. The cost was $28.

I’ll check the gap on the rocker while it’s open.

I did order a entire new carb from amazon for $25. Not sure if I will put it in yet.

Should I drain the oil before opening it up?

No do it aftwe you have fiished to get rid of any trash that might get in there when you have the heads off.
