compression spring troubleshooting

It never fails for people to overthink a valve adjustment.

They would lose their mind if the valve lash had to be adjusted on an older flat head engine.

This engine design shows to have rocker arm mounting studs. If you have problems again, make sure to check the mount studs because they do back out with time and age.

well guys this engine was running great for a couple weeks, now the engine will not turn over completely, turns over and hits tdc and stops. when you turn via hand past top compression the engine will turn over and start, stop engine then it will not go past tdc, new battery. valves readjusted. still will not go past tdc, from what i have seen in the past this tells me it is compression relief spring bad, looking for any advice as what to do now thanks AC

Check the valve train again. Look for ACR bump of the intake rocker after verifying the clearances. As mention check rocker studs and verify they torqued to 150 in/lbs.
And the adjustment locks are torqued to 45 in/lbs.

These camshaft ACRs do fail a lot. IF you need a new camshaft don't buy one those Chinese clones as they fail quickly.

Also DL the service manual if you haven't already. Here is my edited version.

it sounds like the engine was taken apart to replace the rings and the camshaft is out of timing. Pull the spark plug and slowly turn it over BY HAND. If it binds, you either have a valve sticking open or the camshaft is out of timing. The other issue could be something more sinister like the rod is not on correctly and it is hitting the case or canmshaft etc..
