Coil issue or something else?

I have a Craftsman self propelled, 190cc mower, model 970.370433. It starts fine when cold and runs well, but after running for 10-15 minutes, it won't start until after it cools off. It has good spark, but I noticed that when warm, the coil shorts to ground even when disconnected from the kill switch . Am I looking at a bad coil , as I think, or is there another issue to consider?

Thanks for the links. I already searched those, found nothing useful.

I should have added this to my initial question (and will go back and do so after this), but here goes:

- I already drained the fuel tank and filled with fresh fuel.
- I drained the float bowl, removed and cleaned the float, needle, and inspected the needle and seat. All are in new condition.
- Cleaned all air and fuel passages possible without a full disassembly of the carb.
- Replaced the spark plug, made sure the gap was correct.
- Inspected the air filter, looks new.
- On cold start, the mower starts on the first pull. After running for 10 minutes or more, it won't restart unless it has had at least 20 minutes to cool down, then starts right back up.

I don't think coils are ever supposed to short to ground except across the spark plug gap.

Your info is contradictory....it has a good spark...that is not true when warm...correct? because the coil is shorted to ground...as you said.

I say you have a bad coil, based on your statements.

Spend $ 5 on an in line spark tester.
Hook it up then go mow.
When it starts t play up look at the tester.
If it flashes intermitantly then you have a coil problem
If it flashes strongly & regularly till the engine stops revolving then the problem lies elsewhere.

Same when you go to restart it.
Tester flashes = fuel problem
Tester does not flash = ignition problem.
