How do they manage to clear the airports in places like Canada and Alaska where they have tons of snow every year yet they can't mange to keep the airports open in England when it snows?

They use an assortment of equipment. First, the snow gets plowed to the side of the runway. Then they follow with a huge rotary broom. Finally the snow windrow at the side is cleaned up using a powerful snow blower (500+ hp). Very fascinating to watch.

It must be, and having lived in Canada and dealt with snow and ice in abundance, I wish the authorities in England would take note!
