CH740 Coil Issue?

N-A-V

‘04 CH740 (“27hp”) with almost 1,000hrs will occasionally loose some power but doesn’t shut off. If I stop and wait a few moments (sometimes pretty short, other times a minute or so…) full power returns.

I do have a set of inline spark plug testers on the way (only have one) but thought I would start inquiring about replacement coils if that turns out to be the issue.

Per my manual the coil part is #24-584-15-S.

As some of you know this system has been discontinued from what I have read but there is a replacement coil set up available. I am just not sure if it will work with my motor.

I have not looked for the motor numbers yet… will try to this evening.

@VegetiveSteam, you seemed to be a huge help to Turbodriven a while back (Sep, ‘23) when he was having a similar issue.

Is the 25-707-03-S kit the one that still replaces the stock coils?

When it has full power, it runs great.

TY!!!

before replacing a coil I would check its grounding, and for rodent damage around it. Also be cautious if the spark plugs were sourced online thru some of the discount sites. Lots of counterfeit plugs around that look very much like the originals. Those do act up and cause intermittent dropout.

That is a good point.

I am leaning towards a coil after it running just fine while mowing our yard, then just after I parked the Z ( after maybe a minute as I was letting it sit for a minute before shutting off) it finally dropped some in power.

So I wonder if it’s a coil based on it was sitting for a minute before doing so. So no bouncing across the yard which could be a bare wire.

Plugs were bought at a local store, I think last spring. Didn’t write it down and can’t remember for sure.

But I will definitely check both out before I order coils.

TY!!!
