Can't get trimmer head off SRM 2100

I am attempting to remove the trimmer head. There is no hole on any part of the drive, to line up with the other hole, in the collar that does not spin. I can see part of the splines on the shaft. I have tried to jamb a nail against it, but I still can't get it. Ideas?

There is no notch in the gear housing attached to the drive shaft.

If you can see the splines I am wondering if the part with the notch that looks like a big thick washer that goes over those splines isn't missing or has been removed and left off if there was a blade attachment at one time. Would look like item 15 on this parts diagram

Not familiar with that unit and didn't look at the diagrams but on multiple trimmers I have I just hold the collar with a pair of channel locks and spin the head off.

No room to get a pliers or anything in there. Not sure if parts are missing.
