I currently own an old AMC ride on mower ( Briggs & Stratton engine). It is on its last gasp with one wheel missing and the deck buckled from hitting yet another rock. The local repairer tells me that parts are no longer available. I live on 4 acres and currently mow approximately 2/3rds of it. It is a fairly steep block in places and the ground is quite rocky. The really tricky bits get brushcut.

So far I have looked at a Snapper LT2342 and a Husqvana YTH2242TDRF. I have not found many reviews, so would appreciate input from some mower gurus regarding reliability, warranty satisfaction, and service headaches. I am certainly no mechanic and am happy to pay for something that lasts without completely breaking the bank!

I am open to other suggestions.

Check out K-Mart.com for mowers. Doesn't seem like a great place for mowers to be, but they sell some cheap mowers, probably not built the best but still, they are cheap :tongue:

I would suggest that you consider smoothing out your lawn area and removing the surface rocks. Then buy a new mower and it will last alot longer.

I think MTD pretty much builds them all these days. I guess your only choice is going to be size, engine, and mower deck. I would stick with Briggs and Stratton for the simple reason parts are easy to get anywhere! As for the rest of the mower I would think so long as you stick with one of the big names you'll probably be able to get parts and hopefully the thing won't fall apart the first year- They're building a lot of junk these days! John Deere, Ariens, Snapper, Cub Cadet. I'm not too fond of husqavana as I used to log and I think their chains saws were outrageously over rated. My Sthil 6000 or my Super 41 would cut circles around anything Husqavana built and their claim of vibration resistant is hogwash! I would definitely stay away from Murray, Craftsman, Troy-Bilt...............JUNK! The only good thing Troy-Bilt ever made was the older rear tine tillers. Everything they make today is throw away!

I do not think the brand or place you buy it is has much to do with the mower you want or need. In your case a more expensive model than the Snapper model will be needed to last any length of time in rough conditions. I would look for a better grade of mower for steep hills,, rough ground etc.
