Hi I'm in the market for a 42" riding mower.
Just lookin for your thoughts.
Was originally going zero turn but now thinkin lawn tractor cause of attachments.
I'll just be mowing my yard(2/3 acre) and couple other family members on my street.
Really liking cub cadet 1042.

I have been in grounds maintenance for 14 years.
Smallest thing I use is 72" zero turn husq
My baby is a Jacobsen Turfcat 628D
Also spent years on toro groundsmasters

Might want to skim over these comments, but take them with a grain of salt - most seem overly harsh and it just one site.

Good luck with your search,

Ok thanks. Think I gonna go with my original choice. Husqvarna RZ 4222f. It's a bit more costly but think it'll be better in the long run. Talked wit dealer and this is their higher end 42"zero turn. 22hp over the 16hp. Better deck construction. And he told me it had a 3 blade system. Didn't have one in stock so couldn't look it over.

Ok now I'm thinkin Toro time cutter Z 4260
Has V-twin 22hp Kawasaki and still couple hundred less than the husq.

C'mon guys, no thoughts or opinions?

Welcome to the LMF...
You have the background to evaluate these mowers... and it looks like you are now leaning toward a ZTR....

So ... I'll ask you, compared to the Z's you have been running, what so You think of the small residential grade Z... :smile:KennyV

t so You think of the small residential grade Z

My only concern is the decks. I'm just not sure about stamped steel lasting. atleast as long as I would like. Plan on having it for long time

I suspect there could easily be other problems... before the deck itself fails...
A lot depends on how it is used and abused... :smile:KennyV

You mention you liked Cub Cadet to start with and now your talking about a small residential grade Z have you looked at one of these. It has a fabricated deck.

Yeah that fabbed deck would be nice but knocks it out of my price range. Now I looked at the rzt 42. Called the dealer and talked about it. Has 22hp v- twin briggs. And they're 5 min away and have one in stock. But all the reviews on CTR tear it up. Would've liked to get this one but not so sure after all the reviews.
Toro dealer is half hour away but may be better choice. Husq dealer is 20 min away. I have used toro's and husq's for years and believe in their products. I have never used a cub cadet.
No matter which make I decide on I am purchasing at the independent dealer and not a big box.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on cub cadet. And specifically the rzt 42. Would be nice to get it. Few hundred less than the others and dealer is close by. But don't want to regret it

I think when it comes down to buying mowers everybody is going to have an opinion and of course there opinion will be the way or the one to buy. As far as CTR I've never seen a positive review from anyone on anything there so I as someone else said you can take them with a grain of salt.

I've never run the RZT but I have a friend who had the RZT 50 and he said it was a great mower for the money, he had the 22hp B&S and never had any issues that I know of and he's still mowing with it.

I can tell you that I've never had any problems with either of my Z Force and I've put 400 hrs in four years on the 44" with a stamped deck and the only issue I ever had was a stator that needed replacing and I've replaced the deck belt one time.

The 48" I've never had an issue at all with it or the Walk Behind. I really don't think you would go wrong with the RZT and I think if you serviced the mower on a regular basis, kept the oil and oil filter changed very 50 hrs it should last you a lot of years. Like I said everybody is going to have an opinion, it's my 2cents.gif
