Recently was removing flywheel off of Kohler K161 and broke threaded end of crankshaft. (Hindsight have purchased puller). Drilled through broken piece and into shaft and installed pin, and then welded. Appeared to work, but when engine was started, weld didn't hold. Any hope, or is crank junk?

had to be some really fancy welding??? Can you drill the crankshaft and install a cap screw? Sound to me like the crankshaft is junk. How about some pictures of that weld job?

That has to be the key words (New to welding) It would take pro to weld something like that. I have a welder but wouldn't try to weld a crankshaft. If I was trying to fix anything like that it would just be a experiment with nothing to lose. It looks like you have the hole drilled for the pin so I would say re drill the hole and tap it. Then use a cap screw. Its a experiment and just guessing I would say it doesn't turn fast enough to be out of balance. It just has to hold the flywheel on so maybe some big flat washers?
