Briggs OHV on Troybuilt push mower

Hi and thanks for any input!! The air filter on this engine gets very oily and it get bad enough to partially choke the engine. why would oil be blowing back into the air intake? It is not using oil (at least not noticeable on the dipstick) but it is trashing my air filter after three or four hours of use. Any help is appreciated!!!

Overfilled or mower being tipped in a direction that is allowing oil to enter the breather where it can flow into the air cleaner. Or engine is developing a major failure and has a ton of blowby, which could indicate blown head gasket or worn rings.

Welcome newbie.

It helps us to know the model number stamped in the top cover or etched on the side of engine block (opposite the carburetor). Without knowing the model number, it all becomes a guessing game.

One thing I can immediately think of is the air cleaner backing plate gasket has been put on backwards and blocking the breather port which has a connection to the air box.

The engine block breather has to be able to pulse and balance the crankcase pressure pulses has the piston moves up and down in the cylinder.
