Hi All

I'm not a mechanic. My 16 year old Briggs 123K02-0541-E1 suffered decaying RPM and quit. It had been starting with two pulls. It's getting spark. Air filter is clean. I removed and cleaned the carburetor with gumout. Added new fuel and there's fuel in the bowl. I don't see a fuel filter on the parts list and wonder if it's part of the tank?

There's a two week turnaround at the local shop so I thought I'd spent a little time on it. Any ideas what I should be checking? What finally makes a motor like this not worth repairing?

Thanks

Charlie

There is no fuel filter on these engines or in the fuel tank, some came with an inline filter, some didn't.if i remember correctly. Oil Level OK?
See if it will start if you spray some of that gumout directly into the carburetor.
AND, thank you for supplying us with the model info in your FIRST post. some people don't do that. makes it much easier.

Thank you for the quick reply. There's oil in it. Spraying gumout in the carb didn't do it. The tank has more Mechanic in a Bottle than it should. I dumped in 2 OZ and then realized I don't want a full tank if I have to take it to the shop. Would that have an impact?

So it won't start/run with the carb cleaner sprayed directly into the carb, behind the air filter?

Things to check: getting spark; flywheel key isn't sheared, moved, or missing; kill wire isn't grounding out; flywheel brake is away from the flywheel and its contactor is not touching the kill wire's mount when the bail handle is pulled; valve seat has moved, broken, or somehow missing.

Ever pull the top engine cover off for anything?

You need to check several things. Leakdown is a good one. Do you have strong spark? You need one of these.
Something that is adjustable as to make the coil put out the strongest spark possible. Not those testers with the light bulbs inside. Waste of money.
