Briggs carburetor

I have a Snapper LT 300 made by Simplicity. It has a 20 hp Vanguard twin. I cannot find any info about the carburetor which seems to have no name or model number. Having fuel problems. Does anyone know of a source for info about these carburetors?

The model, type and code from the actual engine would be a good starting point to locate information. The Vanguard engines can have that info in various locations. Could be stamped into a valve cover. Or a metal tag riveted to the blower housing and some engine have that tag located next to the oil filter.

Yes, I have that info and still unable to nail down more online info. It is a Briggs and Stratton Vanguard model 358777, Type 0280-E1, Code 06102311. Thanks for your advice.

Can you elaborate on "fuel problems"?
Sure: Lots of fresh gas in tank, hose is clear, suspected plastic Mikuni fuel pump but it is pumping a little bit of fuel (maybe not enough), carb fuel inlet tube is clear, needle and seat seems good as well as float but not sure how to check float setting. Fuel solenoid is working properly. Have not proceeded to totally dismantle carb but it is very clean inside and I suspect it has never been apart since new. Will start easily on spray but not keep running. I ordered and received today an electric fuel pump which I will try tomorrow.

Pull the fuel hose AT the carb inlet. Should flow out with a purpose. If it flows nicely then tapers off...... 💡💡💡 Tank vent clogged in tank cap or fuel outlet on bottom of the tank.
ThankS,… Fuel will get to carb but maybe not enough, trying electric pump tomorrow. Will also check fuel cap.

So find out why you don't get full gravity flow or flow from a pump that both types fill the inner diameter of the hose.

Why add another point of failure? You can't even get a gravity system to work?? I'm not even sure if your engine has a gravity or pumped fuel system?

Okay just looked at your parts list. It might be there but I do not see any type of fuel pump. Leaves me to think you have a gravity system. It's your mower so do as you please. Just saying adding some other part is not a good idea. Test what you have first.

I don't think I have ever seen a Vanguard without a fuel pump at least in the verticle engines. But according to the parts diagram this has a fuel pump item 387

When the engine is cranked how much fuel are you getting out of the line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb. Should be a full diameter fuel stream that somewhat pulses with engine cranks. Also wouldn't hurt to check the pulse line that supplies engine vacuum pulses to actuate the pump. They can crack over time and cause low fuel pump volume.

You can try putting a temporary fuel tank above the carb and see if it will start and run with fuel supplied by that tank. That would either confirm or deny a fuel pump or fuel flow issue into the carb.
