Hi I have a 10 HP Briggs and Stratton "L" head engine. Up until now it has been a great running engine. Both when turning by hand or by starter it binds up randomly to the point of where neither I nor the starter could turn it. but if you turn it the other way it will free up and spin a few times then do the same thing again. I took the spark plug out and same thing so I know its not a valve issue. I did have the flywheel off the other day to check the condition of the alternator. but it ran fin after that and I was driving it around for like 20 min. I not sure what the major malfunction is any suggestions?

is something hitting the flywheel maybe the coil?
