I have a Husquvarna model ZTH6167KOB zero radius mower, I have had it since 2004, it is equipped with a Koehler command Pro 27 hp engine, model CV740, I mow approximately 8 acres each time I mow, which is usually once every week when the grass is healthy and green with lots of rain. I blew the engine on my mower and am considering a Briggs and Stratton replacement. My main concern is what problems will I have with wiring? My mower is not EFi so I see that as no problem. also I would appreciate any imput into this subject. I would like a engine that is equivalent to the one all ready in it. Unfortunately, Koehler elects to put on their engines stickers instead of non removable tags and my tag has come off, so I do not know all the specs. I would greatly appreciate any and all help I may receive thanks ron

First, be sure you get the right size shaft diameter and length. I think the governed high rpms will be the same but, it wouldn't hurt to be sure.Wiring shouldn't be much different. The connectors will probably need to be changed from the stator and the coils. Probably will need to drill new mounting holes. The exhaust may not come with the new engine and you'll need to get one. Why not stick with Kohler? I think they are a better motor for about the same price. gregjo1948

Husqvarna has used the CV740 with the following spec numbers according to the kohler site. 0003,0006,0016,0018,0023,0030,0032,0041,3118,3126

The main thing to look for will be crankshaft length and diameter, charging system output, there may be differences in the wiring that will need to be overcome, like the kohler may have the start solenoid as part of the starter, where as on the briggs it will be a separate item in most cases that will need to be added. you will have to come up with a different exhause system, because your kohler exhaust won't fit the briggs.

Thank you for your reply, I know I must make sure of the shaft size, one problem I have is that kohler uses stickers on their engines with all the pertinent info on them, well LIke many who have experienced the problem that I am experiencing the sticker is gone, and Husquvarna is no help either. going by info I can garner the engine I quoted it the correct engine. you ask why change from kohler to briggs and Stratton, price if the big reason, from doing days of research the kohler replacement engine costs in the neighborhood of $2400'00 where a comparable briggs is half that.

Did you check prices at Small Engine Warehouse? gregjo1948

Swapping engines is pretty easy within a brand, and even switching between brands isn't too hard.

While chassis wiring can be a PITA, engine wiring really isn't much at all. It is always helpful to get the engine and chassis manuals, so that you can see what wire color coding will need to be matched up as not all are the "same" from brand to brand. Often you'll have to modify the connectors/wiring if using a different brand.

The rest is just mechanical stuff like bolt holes, fitting muffler, etc. Probably the greatest inhibitor is the concern for any physical space considerations (is the air cleaner in the same spot and same size; the oil filter clearance; the oil drain; etc).

I'm curious as to what happened to the original motor? Generally, Kohler Commands are pretty robust and short of true neglect, they last a long time.
