I have an 18.5 HP Briggs and Straton engine in my Murray riding mower and when I crank the engine it won't start and fuel shoots out of the air intake for the carb. It ran great a week ago and I don't know what has changed. Any help would be appreciated.

Please post the model numbers for the engine. I don't know if it is a single cylinder, opposed twin, V twin engine.

Re: Briggs and Straton Carburator Issue / Engine issue.

Please post the model numbers for the engine. I don't know if it is a single cylinder, opposed twin, V twin engine.

Model 31N707
Type 0233 E1
Code 040211ZE

The carburator is fine. I opened the valve cover and found a bent intake rod which I replaced and fixed the rocker arm. Now i get gas going through the cylinder but not firing. i replaced the spark plug, took a wire brush to the fly wheel but still won't fire. Could there be a timing issue internally?

I do get a continuous flow of gas through the engine when turned off as well, but that may be a different issue.

I appreciate your help

John
