Briggs 92908 no spark

Im stumped. I first tried a new spark plug.Then i tried a SS to replace the points. I then tried a new ignition coil. Then i tried a different flywheel(magnet seems fine- both original and replacement wheel).
All of this still no spark(plug or spark tool). I sanded surfaces so the coil and SS ignition is grounded. I'm stumped. any other ideas?

I assume when you said new coil you meant a self contained Magnetron coil? Remove the grounding kill wire and set the coil gap to the thickness of a business card. Spin engine and see if you have spark.

Also didn't install a new Magnetron ignition upside down, did you?

You only have to do that if you are in Australia. Being on the other side of the equator and all electrons flow in the other direction.?

To all, I did get a magnetron coil. I put the right side up. There is some paint on the top side on the old one. I lined up the new one same as old one. I had the ground wire disconnected the whole time.

Can you supply us with engine code number, part number for new coil and flywheel. Different engines use different MagnaTron coils, plus flywheels have different arcs. You need matching parts to work together.

There are three coils used on aluminum, single cylinder Briggs (negative ground) to convert from breaker point condenser to electronic as follows:

398593/395489/496914/793281/591420 are used on 2hp to 4hp engines, such as 60000, 80000, 90100, Quattro, and Classic

397358/697037/395490/395491 are used on 5hp engines such as 130000 series flat heads

398811/395492/398265 are used on 7hp to 16hp single cylinder engines, such as 170000, 190000, 280000, and 310000.

Now these don't work on Briggs with cast iron blocks as they are positive ground models.

it replaces 298502 697036 395488 and 496914 (so they say)

It could be pooched, I don't have a lot of confidence in aftermarket engine parts.

Finally got around to fiddle again. I recalled i had a power sprayer with a similar engine so i thought to try the ignition module. Bingo!!
