So I have an older briggs 2 hp that I have been working on. I did away with the old points and condenser system and installed a solid state coil. From there, I have done a valve job and thorough cleaning of the engine. Has great compression, the carb while admittedly old is certainly usable and is completely clean. Engine has great spark using a tester, the plug is of the correct variety and has had the correct gap set. The engine will not so much as cough, even with fluid sprayed directly in the intake and down the head itself. The flywheel key is brand new, and the flywheel magnets and coil are rust free. I have done all I can to sort this puzzle out, and would greatly appreciate any input anyone has to offer.

We will need the actual engine model number , code & serial it should be stamped on the blower housing just above the spark plug.

We will also need the model number of the coil you used and where you got it from.
You can not just bold in any old self switching magneto and have the engine run

Check for a spark by removing the kill wire and then pulling the starter, it will be hard to see so best dome somewhere dark or with an orange LED spark tester.

The model is a 80902, followed by 0170-01 and 6309187. As for the coil, it came off a push mower engine I believe, though I apologize as I cant remember for certain. the only id I can find on it is 28. I have removed the kill wire and also used that tester, and have had good spark.

Hopefully one of the boys with access to the Briggs Power Portal will chime in but chances are it is the wrong coil so you get a good spark, but at the wrong time.
Unfortuneately you can not just pull a coil from a working mower and expect it to work on a different model.
