My Briggs 21hp, Model 331877; type 2371-G1 was running at a fast idle, starting running rough, started blowing dark oil like exhaust and quit running. Now it won’t start. Did I bend a pushrod?
Thanks,
John

Does the engine turn over/crank? If so, does it do so fast?
Taking the valve cover off is easy, just pop it off.
Yes, cranks fine and fast. Just popped the valve cover and everything looked just fine. Pulled the spark plug which was really filthy dirty. Quick brush up on the wire wheel, stuck it back in, cranked her up and off she ran. Easy peasy! Much easier to work on than my 1936 Ford Phaeton.
dip the oil.
If it is over full you have a float valve in the carb that is not sealing allowing fuel to dribble down the carb into the barrel then past the pistons into the sump
When running the over full sump throws lots of out into the carb via the breather which will foul the plug .
