I bought a montgomery ward rider with an 11hp briggs motor on it.
Got it home and had an 18hp Briggs twin ii motor sitting around and swapped it for
the 11hp got it running good with only having the starter wires hooked up.
i was letting the gas run out to have it turn off. i didn't have the little 2 wire plug, plugged
in because i had to extend the wires. i just wanted to see if it would run.
well when i extended the wires. and plugged it in and tried to start it, it won't start now.
i unplugged it and still no fire.

I have the same issue with a electric start push mower. No fire. I think we are going to have to replace the ignition module. Thats the thingy with the wire that attaches to the spark plug. If you need to know how go to Youtube.com and put ( Lawn Mower Electrical ) in the search box.

I Know there is a instructional video for this as I viewed it last night 24 Sep.

yea i'm thinking that it's the ignition coil. i hooked up the 12v wire to the ignition coil instead of the ground wire and ended up roasting the ignition coil.

i was just going to mention that...

I replaced the ignition coil on the mower and it runs fine.

Problem: After I replaced the coil, I noticed that I had forgot to tie down the cutoff switch on the handle. This may have been my problem after all and I may have wasted $38.00 because I'm D U M B.

hmm well i put a new ignition coil on, got new plugs, and still no fire? pictures may help somone figure this one out. the 2 wire plug thats in my hand is from the old wiring harness. I remember that when i cut the wires to extend them i cut them at the same time and a decent spark shot off and ever since then it hasn't started. when i turn the key to start it the starter will just sit there and turn the motor.

On my 4 wheeler the positive has a built in fuse link. When it sparked, it could have taken out the fuse.

I have a similar problem. 18 hp twin runs for about 10 minutes then dies. I know the stator is bad but it has been running for the last two year just fine off the battery. Has new fuel cap and filter. Replaced the ignition coil. Seems to run best when cold. Any thoughts
