Black plastic fuel tanks.

Good morning,
My question pertains to part number 699387. It has a sleeve for a two position "key" that engages or disengages the starter. If the tank seam is cracked, can this present a no start condition?
The mower is a White Outdoor about twenty three years old. I've been told repairing a crack on plastic tanks is impossible. Remedies do not last long. I will appreciate any assistance.Thank you.

even with gas leaking out the side of the tank the mower should start. your starting issue lies else ware. as for as fixing the crack? Ive seen people claim you can on YouTube university campus.
