Bio-Fuel Technology

It just occurred to me that homes excrete a lot of wastes. In fact, there are threads in this forum that talk about composting. What little I know about composting is that it emits methane, which some people catch and convert into fuel.

I know for a fact that sedans now use LPG. Can methane be harnessed to power the lawn mower? Is anyone aware of any bio-fuel technology for lawn mowers?

INTERESTING you should inquire, about 2 hours ago I was watching a science tv program, and they actually showed a push mower being run on methane gas produced by cows. Do a Google search and you will probably find several hits. If I remember correctly, the team that developed the methane powered mower were considering bagging the grass clippings and feeding them to the cows...now THAT would be the ULTIMATE in recycling...:biggrin:

Hi JDgreen, I did as you suggested and found a forum that jokingly discussed the failure of a "bio-efficient" farm. Anyhow, my impression is that methane fuel technology is still evolving. Bits of experiments from here and there would be needed until commercial viability is demonstrated. Such viability is already demonstrated by LPG, which of course is still petroleum-based.

The vision of a lawn mower powered by methane produced by cows, who in turn eat the grass is still an exciting thing to think about.
