Bent push rod

I have a Honda HRC216, it will not start. The compression is very low so i took the valve cover off and found an issue. I am trying to find out what is going on. Any advice would be helpful.

Adjustment became loose...push rod slipped out of place and became bent in the process.
Hopefully nothing else was damaged.
Get a new push rod, install and adjust valve per specs.

So I got a straight rode and started to replace the bent. I found another problem, seems the top valve is stuck in place and doesn't move. Any idea what could cause this? Or if I am doing something wrong? Thanks

I guess you are saying the valve wouldn't move is the reason the push rod bent? It sure looks like head removal time to find the problem.

I would suggest if you are going to do it yourself and never did any thing like this. Start with a service manual, even if you have to buy one. Most service manual will give you a step by step information. Also if you don't own one get a torque wrench, you can pick up a cheap one from HF. Just take your time and follow the service manual and you should be OK. Who even knows you might enjoy it so much you might get into the mower repair business

Which valve had the bent rod? Was it the top one?

If it is the one that had the bent rod...it will not move because the push rod moves it.
It doesn't have a push rod until you put one back in.

Take out spark plug and find top dead center
Put the push rod in...use a flashlight to be sure it is hitting the tappet concave in the bottom. Put the other end of the push rod under the rocker arm
Tighten the nut to set the correct clearance...use the lock screw/nut whatever it has to lock it in place.
recheck and redo until correct.

I bet there is a Youtube video showing how to do it.

The compression could be low if the push rod knocked a hole in the top of the piston. look in the spark plug hole with your flash light...maybe you can see.

The top valve doesn't move, with a new push rod or without.

I would say looking at the picture was this left out in the weather? I am seeing a lot of rust. It looks that the valves are rusted to the valve guides. Maybe some penetrating oil and a soft face hammer and just work on them. The way it also looks is the engine also burning oil bad, could the piston rings be stuck into the piston? groves?
