Belt Issue

Twice now when turning off the mower deck my belt has slipped off the pulley. I checked the pulleys and they all seem tight (no loose bearings) so does that mean the belt is probably stretched out and in need of replacing? Also, I can hear the blades lose power if I raise the deck with them still engaged.

Yes, I would start by replacing the belt. Before I put the new one on, I would pull the idler pulley and spin it in my hand. If you feel any jumping or bearing growl, I would also replace it.

I'm guessing here. You have an MTD mower.

About 99 percent of belt stretch occurs within about the first 6 hours of operation.

Look for a flopping idler pivot.

V belts DON"T stretch. You have other problems. First of all are you talking about a OEM belt or aftermarket?

1. Run OEM or a equivalent belt. If it calls for a 119.4 inch belt do not assume that a 119 inch belt will work fine.

2. Sounds like a spindle, bearing problem.

3. Good luck.
