Bad Boy Maverick HD right tank not flowing

Thanks for the replies! Talked to my dealer and they’re going to swap it out. But, you are right about the wait time. I’m just going to get by with one tank until the cutting season is over. We’re getting a lot of rain so I’m cutting every 5-6 days.

It would be a quick check to find where the problem exists, by choking off both of the tank hoses at the valve with vise-grip pliers and a rag, then remove the hose ends attached to the valve.

Gently loosen the pliers on the side in question to see if the tank or line is blocked or the valve is the actual problem. The valve is a simple "gate" style valve and there is really nothing to come loose or break inside them.

If there is still no fuel flow when the pliers are loosened, the blockage is at the tank or in the line from the tank is in question.

I would not be surprised if there is a slip-on rubber cap on the valve nipple or the tank nipple that someone missed during the machine assembly process. The selling dealer would not know this from their pre-delivery setup and inspection.

Those rubber caps are put in place on fittings, by the part manufacturer, to prevent bugs from making a nest in the open port fittings.
 
Talked to BB dealer who was at the Buckmasters show, and he said the valve is correct but could be a dirt dauber nest or some other obstruction. He said, "I don't know how they get in there, but they do." I will probably try Auto Doc's suggestion when I get some time next week. I've got to drain most of the gas out of that right tank in case I have to take the tank nipple off.

How can the valve be correct? It's obviously just a shut off valve. The valve should have a left, right, and off setting.

hey everyone - look at the photo. It looks like there is only one hose in and one out hose (yellow arrows). There is also another hose tucked deep up under (blue arrow) There are two tanks. Gee, where does the hose from the second tank end up? Is it a Y, is it another valve? Is it a crossover? Plug in the end? Trace each hose to see where it goes. It cannot be open or all the gas would run out. If the valve had 3 connections on it, is one plugged up?

The hose you highlighted in blue is a vacuum or vapor hose. It appears to be one fuel line in and one fuel line out. The one on the outlet side probably goes to the fuel filter.

Where is the line that leads to the carburetor come from? They may have it plumbed so one tank is the primary and the other is the reserve. If is not that then someone (creative shop tech) changed the line around to only work with only one tank.

When I was at a local John Deere dealer as a service manager, I had such an incident on a dual tank commercial rider that came in for a municipal contract. The tech quit before I discovered several problems that he had created with a few units.

Hopefully it is just a simple blockage issue.
 
so where is the second line? Do they go to a Y then the on/off valve? Is one stuffed with a plug in the end? Should not be hard to figure out.
 
I never heard of or seen a dirt dauber that can survive gasoline long enough to do anything.

But I would first trace the lines to see what BB actually did. But a just an on/off control can't switch between tanks. If they such a valve then they were draining both at the same time. Just much easier to re-plumb to a regular three way valve and change the label.

I agree. However, I believe that Bad Boy installed the wrong valve at the factory. The OP has a Maverick HD. It has two tanks. The standard Maverick only has one tank. A mistake could have been made on the assembly line.
