b/s only runs with choke fully closed

have a b/s model 21r807-0090-g1 that will only run with the choke closed, cleaned carb same results only with choke closed when you go to lower speed the engine dies, replaced the carb and the same thing happens looking to see what is going on

start looking for intake air leaks. Make sure the fuel line is not restricted. I had an edger do that, the idle jet fell out. It was a set jet that screwed in and not an adjustable one.

I agree with sgkent on looking for air leaks. Also verify that the gaskets between the carb and engine are installed correctly.

You both know, they are/were waaaaay over torqued, smashed to smithereens, leaking like my wallet.

Pull and flush the gas tank, tank only no fuel lines. Clean it inside and out. Clean, as in hospital clean.

FILL with Diesel. Test for fat flow out of the tank into a glass jar. This will test two things. One is proper fat flow OUT of the tank AND the tank vent cap IS or ISN'T venting proper.

Dump the test Diesel back in your Diesel can for cleaning greasy oily parts. Throw your brake cleaner away and use Diesel.

Could of ordered the wrong carb???

I would install all new fuel line, filter and shut off. Need to pressure test the shut off to make sure it works.

After all this, verify a fat flow of gas AT the carb inlet.

What kind of bad gas? Was there crud in it? Clean out that tank if you haven't already.

But the gas was new when it was purchased... LOL.

These days new pump gas is useless after 30 days especially if it is 15% Ethanol.

Use only the more expensive non-Ethanol if you have it available. Otherwise, use a product called Ethanol shield that is available from most parts stores.

Sorry, "red" Stabil is not what it used to be unless you can find the "blue" marine Stabil because it is a little better.
