I have a Swisher Postmaster tow behind line trimmer. It is hard to start, as you have no tennison release on the drive belt. So you are turning engine, a long drive belt, and the trimmer head. After 30 years of working on forklifts, my shoulders are simply worn out. And it has always been a literal pain to start.

The model of the engine is a 120602-0119-E1-06033-FA. Will I be able to install a starter on this engine? I don't care about charging, as it is only started once for each use, and I can charge the battery as needed.

If anyone has a part # that would fit it, a I'd appreciate the info.

Thanks

If I checked the engine correctly you can add an electric start to it. The part number should be #695550. You may also have to replace the flywheel, if yours does not have a ring gear. The starter comes with a plug that you may have to make an adaptor for. Take all you numbers to a Briggs and Stratton dealer and they will be able to double check the part numbers.

Looking at B & S parts, looks like that is only up to a 5hp. Any other choices?

I looked it up on the B & S website using the posted numbers. Maybe I am wrong, but I believe a 120 engine is a five horse. Are all the numbers you gave correct including the code number.

Could your model number be 12D602?

Looking around since you told me it can be done, it appears that the number b&s gives is 695959. Which would pay for 3 of the pt number you gave. Will the 695550 work, I hope.......

Double check your model, type and code numbers for me, please. I want to make sure with my recommendations are right. Code number has me confused.

It is 120602-0119. I put my old man reading glasses, and filled the numbers with a gun filler stick and took a photo even.......

I appreciate your help...

Thank you, I've learned something new today. Thought that the 120 series engines were discontinued in 2005. I checked everything again and I would say that the starter part number 695550 is the one you need. According to the code number your engine was built in 2006 and they did not change starters until 2007. Did you check to see if your flywheel had a ring gear? If it does you should be set to go. I would take your numbers to a dealer and have him look up the starter. That way if there is something wrong you will not have to eat it.

Thanks for your help. The one you listed is a lot cheaper, than the other one. ..

I have not pulled the cover yet, I cut grass most of the day. I cut about 4 acres out of a little over 5 that I have.
