b/s hard to start

b/s 40h777-0168-e1 will only start when starting fluid is used, once starts runs good, carb has been cleaned fuel pump is working
any suggestions would be great

Clean the pilot circuit if it has one and adjust the choke proper.

Wouldn't hurt to clean the fuel tank like a new one, as in spotless. New fuel line from tank to carb. Make sure you have a solid stream of fuel AT the carb inlet. Drain it in a glass jar. Also look for water in the bottom of the jar.

Your symptoms normally point to a choke that isn't closing all the way. Check and make sure the choke is actually fully closed when starting cold.

replaced the carburetor, the unit will still only start with starting fluid will run good and start and stop no problem, but if sets over night the unit will not start unless starting fliud used, new coils, new stator, new starter, could it be timing issue

to echo what ILENGINE said, remove your air box where you can see the choke plate and can access it.. put the throttle in the choke position or close the choke by whatever means your piece of equipment uses, then use your finger to push the choke butterfly closed.. if there is any movement more towards the fully closed position, adjust the choke linkage.. it does not take much of a gap at all to affect starting.
