Have a Bolen (MTD) 21" push mower. DOM May 9, 2017. Engine Model # 09 P6 02 0076F1. S/N:17 0509 51 34567.

Mower maintained regularly since purchased. Pulled it out 2 days ago, will not start. Weak spark, opened top end & cleaned flywheel & reset air gap, new plug, Great strong spark. Still won't start. FUEL Starved, bone dry new plug. Can start on 1 or 2 pulls, if I put fuel directly into carb or spark plug hole, but dies as soon as it burns it off. Found a fitting on the carb that appeared to be missing a hose, but extensive searching found that apparently it is just a vent fitting that never had a hose attached to it. Fuel is fresh. Flushed the carb, but still not getting fuel. Found another posting about a fuel starved carb that turned out to be one of the fuel line fittings between the tank & the carb blocked solid from an unknown substance, possibly the fuel additives in the gasoline (like e10, e 15), so will now be pulling off the line between the tank & carb to check for a plugged fitting as that other owner had found. The biggest annoyance I have found is with the numbering system Briggs & Stratton uses & the amount of revisions they have for parts & trying to figure out how the date codes next to the parts work like this one:
125A
799583
CARBURETOR | Used Before Code Date 18070100
125A
84002084
CARBURETOR | Used After Code Date 18063000

I can't find ANY numbers on my engine that correspond to their Code Date numbering! If anyone here can explain this system to me so that it is easier to understand, it would be greatly appreciated!

Even by my model number, B&S says I have a 500E 146 cc engine when mine is clearly marked as 500E 140cc. While I am NOT the SMARTEST guy in the world, I am FAR from the DUMBEST guy in the world, but their numbering codes have me completely baffled!

According to the model number you posted, you need carb #799583. The code number, aka serial number, is 17 0509 51 34567. Forget the spaces.

Thanks Rivets! Now I have to get their DATE CODES down, where they say used before & used after.
What does Code Date 18070100 mean, is it 2018 - July - 1st day? if so, when reading the date codes on parts, if XX=Yr XX=Mo XX=Day the what do the last 2 XX= stand for?

I think I am finally understanding my way around this stuff.
