Automotive coil/ignitor on a mower question

Out of curiosity would using a coil and igniter from a car on my 15hp B&S cause catastrophic failure? Just wondering cuz a guy came in to work the other day to get a coil for his Koehler mower engine and we were able to find him one that was comparable. Now I'm sure his engine is significantly larger than mine but the plug wire on my stock coil is pretty rough and is wrapped with electrical tape and I have tons of spare car parts.

Hello Joe...
There were a Lot of older engines that used automotive coils... But they also had points to trigger the coils & a battery with charging system to energize the coil... My Cub Cadet 1450 has a Kohler 14 Hp, with large auto coil & points...
Most small engines use a magneto rather than a coil that requires a battery ... depends what you have, But it is always going to be Easier to stick with the Original manufactures set up... :smile:KennyV

Yeah this is what my coil setup looks like.

It would be nice to switch to a setup that would allow me to use a replaceable plug wire.

I was thinkin that the maybe somethin to do with the magnet spinning makes it spark but the part of the coil that's near the magnet is bolted to the block so I don't think that would go well lol
