I just bought a used (3 year old) Ariens Zoom 34 and after I start it, I would like to have the engine at full speed to start cutting, but when I go to full throttle, it kinda putts out and shuts off. What might be causing this?

I know it is ideal to mow at full throttle, so I would like to get this resolved.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you putting the lever up past full and onto choke?

Perhaps, choke is not marked exclusively, as it is just at the highest point on the throttle. I know other models specifically indicate and label the choke setting on the throttle adjustment. There is a notch somewhere in the middle indicating the blades will not turn on unless the throttle is set to that point. As I increase from there however, I don't notice any change in the blade speed (of course I am relying on sound at this point). Maybe that is the sweet spot that Ariens intends for it to be set as the cutting speed. It can be increased from there, but once I get ever so close to full throttle, it will shut off.

Take the air cleaner off and see if the choke is closing when you move the lever up. On most mowers you run with the lever in the notch.
