Ariens spindle

Can anyone tell me how to remove the deck spindle from a Ariens 915013 17/42 briggs?
I can't get my head around this and all I can find on the net is parts lists.
I downloaded a service manual but it doesn't cover this.
Thanks for any help.

Are you talking about the entire spindle housing or the spindle jackshaft? The entire housing can be remove, after taking off the blade and pulleys, by removing the spindle bolts.

I can't get the pulleys off

Take the deck to the shop, cheaper than replacing the entire spindle.

I don't need to replace anything except the spindle housing

Put the blade back on block it with a chunk of 2x4 so it can not move now put a wrench on the nut that holds the pulley on the top and take the nut off.
Remember counterclockwise.

If you have all the bolts out your going to have to pry it up. Put some bp blast on it tap it easy with a hammer then try and pry it up. If that don't work get a bigger hammer and screwdriver

That was a very good video

You have to get the pulley off first. It can be a pain and you'll need gear pullers. After that you can remove the spindle. If it is busted, get a whole new assembly. They can be rebuilt, but you will need a good housing. You can get the bearings most anywhere.

Youtube has some good clips on it.
