We get about 1/2 dozen ride ons from China down here marketed under a variety of names that are all fitted with "Kohler" engines.
There is no model name on them but the air filter is the same as the old Courage ones .
The engines are supposedly made in Kohlers factory in China.
At $ 1999 ( Aus) for the complete mower including 17Hp engine it has to be made in China as a short block is $ 1600 ( Aus) and a complete 17Hp engine is $ 2350 ( Aus) down here .

Bert- I hear you. The engine I referred to is a 21hp Pro-Grade. This is on mowers that retail for $5K & up.
I finally did get to talk to Kohler today, they claim these engines I mentioned are made in USA.
It's their low end line that get made in china (according to the Kohler). fwiw.
Well that is what one would expect.
No one off shores to China to get a higher quality part , for now.
In 15 years or so the top end ones will be made in China and the bottom end will be made in the USA, but like Korea, & Japan previously it will take a little time before their products are 200% better than the product they were copying.
Been around for a while seen this happen 1/2 dozen or more times.

I have to agree with you. Things are changing, for sure.
