This is a Ryobi Hedge trimmer. The filter has rotted off and fallen in the tank. I don't know which hose it was on. If no one knows for sure which hose is the carb inlet, then maybe I can test it by putting two new hoses in some fuel, pumping the primer and see which hose draws and which one bubbles the most. I think that the engine presurizes the tank and that forces fuel into the carb but I don't know which hose the filter goes on. The tank is in the upright position in the first photo. The hoses are two different colors so one can see where each went. But I do not know which hose the filter went to.

Filter goes on the inlet hose which is the lower one on the carb
Return line is always the one closest to the purge bulb
