I just bought a used Snapper with this engine. I can't find much information on it though. Does anyone have a link to the repair manual or know anything about it? Thanks

Thanks. I have found some information on the engine itself, but I can't find anything that talks about durability. From the Briggs made video I watched, it seems like they designed to last a long time, but they use plastic gears on the inside, so I don't know.

Well the company that made it is not going to talk about it in a bad way, so you will need another source if you want reliable info, like people who have used it.

PLASTIC gears inside of the engine?

I have heard no complaints but not many of them around here. It is one of Briggs engines made outside the United States. I would imagine that means in China. Plastic gears inside of engines is pretty common.

CHINA! Oh well. It seems to have good power and such. It just worries me that I can't find many opinions on it. Plus I spent $190 on the mower.

Maybe the best thing you can do is try out the mower and see how you like the mower & engine.

Thats a good idea. Unfortunately it is about 30-40 degrees hear, and it rained a lot over the weekend. Hopefully this weekend it will be nice enough to try out for awhile. Also, it seems that on a cold star, it kind of surges and then evens out. Which I assume is because of the low temperatures, and also I noticed that when it starts up, there is the faintest puff of black smoke. Just enough so that it has to have a light colored background to be visible. I also noticed that there is too much oil. So I will drain it and replace it, and maybe get a new spark plug. Thanks for the help.

My mower used to surge and then even out after a second, but it doesn't do it anymore. I never figured out why it did that.
Good luck!
