Last Fall when I put the mower away I drained the carb by shutting off the fuel line and running it dry. Today, I am trying to get it started for the first time with no luck so far. I have removed the air cleaner and used a small syringe to squirt some fuel into the carb. I pull the starter cord immediately and she fires up and runs until that small amount of fuel is used up, about 3-5 seconds, and then quits. I repeated the process several times with the same results each time. I have checked to make sure the fuel line is open. It sure appears that we are not getting any fuel feeding the carb. When I performed this procedure, I had the choke engaged fully. Any tips on what I should try next? Thank you in advance!

I would remove and clean the carburetor.
I assume it has a GCV160 or 190 carb??

let it sit awhile with a full tank and try again. I've had engines take five or six tries when the carbs are totally dry, especially if it is a gravity fed carb. Also some engines have a small shut off valve, and people forget about them.

Adjust valves with engine cold per specs in your operators manual.
See item 1 fuel filter inside fuel hose at tank, have you changed it?

1) remove the fuel line to make sure the fuel supply to the carb is good
2) if fuel supply is good pull the tap apart & clean it then replace the rubber valve

You might check that Float/needle is not stuck . Replace the spark plug just in case.
