Advice on buying this John Deere 110?

Hello, brand new here, looking for anything specific to look for on this 110. The seller agreed to $500, it’s a 2015 with 1058hrs on it, needs a battery and belt. Too many hours? Any major maintenance? Mechanically inclined and feel comfortable wrenching on this, just want to know what I’m gettin in to from those of you with experience owning/working on these mowers. Thank you all!

1000 hours is about the life of the hydros on the 100 series JD's
So try pushing it without the bypass lever in the push position.
The wheels should lock if the hydros are in very good condition
If the mower moves with a lot of effort then stops the instant you stop pushing then it should run
If it pushes with little to no effort and will roll on when let go the trans is deceased.

A common trick is to remove the belt then say it broke to hide the fact that the hydros are gone .

When you run it, check for any emission of smoke when you move to WOT and/or the same when you back it down to idle. If yes, then the head gasket is likely blown(between the cylinder and the push rod galley), a common occurrence on that Briggs motor. Good news is it's an easy fix although the head gaskets are getting pricier! (about $18). If you do buy the tractor and it is smoking, don't put off the fix as before you know it your oil level gets critically low and it seizes!

And keep in mind that that transmission is known to work fine when cold, reverse gets slow as it warms up, then eventually you lose about 80% of ground speed/power. Some last, some don't but the later models as that one seem to have better luck.
