My Mower started jerking while in forward. If you put it in Reverse it doesn't do that just only in Forward and I noticed it was really like slowing down to almost seemed like a crawl and would go then jerk every so often like it had water in the gas kinda thing but it wasn't the gas.. so rule that out completely. changed all of that..cleaned carb. it was making a sound that was coming from the rear end as well. So took the rear end out from under it and took it apart to look inside to see if any parts were broken off : That wasn't the case either. Nothing was wrong with any of the inside parts as far as we could see. all the teeth were on the wheels. Now dont' know where else to turn to and check for what the problem could be. Does anyone or has anyone has any problems with there mower jerking like it was wanting to just stop on them and making a funny noise in the rear end..it was definitely coming from the rear end for sure. Hoping someone else has had this problem and can help me out so I wont have to take it to a lawn mower dealer that will charge more than a mower would cost..

WELCOME to these Forums....

Check the key on the pulley driving the trans-axle, It could be sheared or missing... Reverse is a much lower gear, so it may have enough grab on the shaft to drive in reverse, but not forward... also same goes for the drive belt it Could be slipping... :smile:KennyV

Not knowing which gearbox you have , on the Peerless transaxle there is a selector key that selects the gears by sliding down a slot inside the line of gears , it can break or become weak meaning that the drive jerks on and off .The keys are available but by the time you notice the problem it might already have damaged the gear slots .
