I would like to have one portion of my backyard for playing purposes next year. But I've noticed that playing on a lawn ruins the grass.
I need to know if there is a grass type that can withstand a lot of jumping and playing on.

Have you considered astro turf? A friend of mine has done his yard in this and not only does it look fantastic and doesn't take any maintenance, it's also very hardy.

BUT that means he dose NOT get to mow it....:frown:

As to real grass... I don't think any grass will survive a well played playground. Thats why different mulches are usually used on them... I have recently seen munched up rubber products like sneaker mulch used on busy playgrounds... :smile:KennyV

You need a good turfgrass such as a Hardy Morning Side Playground Mixture which is highly traffic resistant. You can find it at most lawn and garden centers.

How cool that there is an actual grass called "Playground mixture". Does it really withstand all that walking on it? I recall how our front went totally bald when we allowed the kids to play on it when they were small.
