Have you ever had an engine fail because of:

1) a brand of oil

2) the viscosity of oil that was used

And could prove without a doubt one of those two things caused the failure. If so how did you come to that conclusion?

not that i would say i know alot about mowers but Briggs and straton engine from what i seen on the net you can use cooking oil and still it goes on and on

my hayter i said to a guy i had one i was looking at said yes they had a Briggs and straton if you cant get it started he would be surprised

can you prove the oil was the problem these days

if you commit a murder these days they want/need video and confession before any one can be put to blame

and i would assume i would also depend on how old the engine is if its a new engine yes they would have a problem with a different oil that is needed on an older engine prob would not be so much of a problem was it a new engine that had been run in ?

Brand of oil I have to say no.

2) the viscosity of oil that was used
This I have seen a problim. A light viscosity oil, engine starts to use oil, carbon build up on head, engine starts to knock.

I have seen this problem on two engines so far, A Kobota and a Briggs

Two repair jobs repaired payed for and gone no prove, Don't need to or care if you beleave me or not.

Over the years i have seen many things go wrong with engines and oil weight was blamed. In some cases it sure looked to be true on the little vertical Tecumseh engines. I have seen many engines problems blamed on oil brand. But never any proof or sign that it was true. Oil has almost mystic powers at times and more so with some folks than others.
