'99 LZ25KC604 value/advice

My brother has the above mower with a 60" commercial deck. Kohler 25hp motor is shot. Trying to determine if it's worth investing in a new motor. It has somewhere around 500 hours and he didn't report any other problems except the engine. Can anyone give me an estimated value of this machine? Many thanks!

$1500 the way it sits. I personally would not pay over $1000.
It is going to cost $1500 to put engine in.

Thx Chuck for the reply. My brother told me he won't take a dollar more than $500 for it. I checked engine prices today and best I found for a Kohler direct replacement was Equipqtron at $1999. Another place had another similar Kohler for $1750. Repower Specialists made a compelling case for a Honda engine with an adapter kit for a few hundred more...
Nevertheless, if i believe the rest of the machine is in good working order you believe it's worth investing in a new motor? Thx!

At $500 I would snatch it up. Well as long as you have the money to get an engine for it.

You could buy it and look around and pick up a used riding mower with a big enough motor cheap this fall.and end up with little money in a good machine. I have a John deer mower with a 25 HP Kohler 124 hours I picked up for 500$ just for the motor good luck
