If your trying to get at the bushings in the driveshaft, remove the transmission as an assembly. There should be one bolt holding it to the deck from the bottom. The bolt may be hidden with dried grass crud. The snap rings just hold the plastic cover on the transmission.

I guess I need to remove the parts holding the axles at the ends where they go through the height adjusters, etc. The bolt is out of the gear box but it won't move far enough to disengage the driveshaft. I'll get back on it.

I got the driveshaft out and the shaft and both bushings look solid.. no rounding at all. Where do I look next to correct the problem? I appreciate any help.
Thanks

Ok, remove the plastic cover on the transmission. You'll have to soak it in kerosene or other solvent to check the gears for wear. I have a 8255 parts mower, not sure if it's the same transmission or not. I'll give you the transmission, but you would have to pay for shipping.

Ok, I got. The driveshaft in and got an adjustment on the clutch rod that attaches to the deck. The self propel is working great. Jeff, thanks for the help and for the offer for the gear box. Thanks to all who replied.
