hi guys, I recently garbage picked a model 8238AE lawn boy and it has the electric start. im wanting to remove the starter and just use a manual recoil. is there anyway to remove the starter and keep the manual recoil or does it have to remain together?
 
No. With that particular model the rope starter is an integral part of the electric starter. All you need is a pin and cup to convert it over to pull start.

After looking at the electric starter assembly, you would have to get the whole assembly off a manual start L.B. I'd call a lawnmower dealer to see if they have one on a parts mower, check Craigslist or Ebay. Is the electric starter bad? It might still work and just need a battery.
