Running into one problem. I have a very steep driveway and ride my mower down with my weed-eater to cut the grass on the private access road at the mailbox. Yesterday when coming bak up in 6th gear i hit a standstill and then the belt squeaked a little and then we resumed at what seemed like 6th gear speed. Any clue what caused this? Is it something that can be fixed?
its a 2004 murray select 17.5 42".

I guess its hard for me to picture only one belt but you know your mower and I don't. Did you get the right belt ? Just guessing? If its not the belt something sure slipping somewhere and you know that much.

check for loose pulleys....especially the tranny pulley
You must have two belts. The deck belt will be on bottom and is the one you can see under the engine. The drive belt will be above the deck belt and probably up very close to the frame, maybe even between the frame rails. Infact, you may even have to remove the deck in order to get a real good look at it.

I know all my rider mowers have three belts, travel, mower, and one that runs the deck, but it is his mower and who am I to say it has more then one belt. I find a lot of things out there I haven't seen.

Hey there, no name calling here, even if you are the one calling yourself a name.
We've all been there at some point. You look and look for something, swear it's not there, only to go back and look again and find what you had been missing.
