I just bought a Yard Machines riding mower with an 18 hp briggs 2-cylinder (1997 or so, I believe). I swapped in a 46" deck from a parts mower, changed the blades and freed up the spindles and double pulley (it had been sitting idle for some time). By 'freeing up', I turned the blades by hand until they spun freely. I imagine that the grease had dried in place, and this got some lubrication moving in the bearings.
The deck is working, but making a grinding noise. Can the blade spindles be opened up and regreased? Or, can just the bearings be replaced? If so, how? Any sources for new bearings?
Thanks,
Tom

You going to need new bearings. Take the old ones out and go to a auto parts store or you can look them up at MTDPARTS.com
