I’m doing a motor swap in an older Argo. Put in a Briggs and Stratton 20hp vanguard v-twin. 351447 1064 E1

The motor had a tapered shaft and was hooked up to a generator. I cannot find what end bolt size I need.

I have tried 5/16-18 and 5/16-24 both don’t thread correctly. Tried an M8-1.25 and no go.

Does anybody know what bolt size is needed?

Should be 3/8"-24 (0.375-24 UNF) or at least that's what the 807778 crankshaft used. The newer 809842 crankshaft I don't have info on but it should be the same.

Hello Repsol1k,

These shafts were designed specifically for generator application.

What is "an older Argo". I'm not familiar with that brand.

Did the old engine have a tapered shaft and the same diameter?

Just on a guess the thread will likely be a regular 3/8X24 thread.

Hey, the shaft was tapered and I had a machine shop turn the shaft into a keyed 1 inch diameter for the clutch plate

Tried a 3/8x24 and it was to large

Sorry the 807778 is straight PTO but that's what the IPL showed.

Apparently someone swapped crankshafts, here is a couple of the Taper shafts used in the 351400 series.

I’ve tried both of these bolts with no luck. Any other suggestions?

Thinking I might have to pull the motor and have something new drilled and tapped.

I think the machine shop would be the best folks to ask. The current threads at the tip may be blunted and currently not allowing a bolt to start into the threads

Size a wood dowel that will screw into the hole by measuring the ID of the hole and add 0.020" . Then you can get a better idea of threads / inch and diameter to determine if its imperial or metric .
