A friend (????) just sold me his used John Deere 30S weed trimmer. I'm learning my way around the unit (can't find a free instruction booklet pdf. like I found for my Husqvarna garden tractor online) but can't seem to crack the mystery on removing the trim line head to replace the line. I got it open once quite by accident. I'm ready to take to to church tomorrow and ask for an exorcism after services are over. Anyone have a tried and true way to remove the head without dynamite?

The manual might be here to buy: John Deere Ag - New Equipment: Technical Publications - Publications Search

Part # OMM112773 ???

But someone might be able to help you for free!

Yeah, that's what I was hoping for. The darn thing can't be rocket science and, of course, I'm too Scotch to put out the $25 for the manual. I reckon the $25 John Deere wants for the manual (your link was valid to the manual) is a good profit item for the company or they wouldn't be charging so much for them.

Found the answer! It was on youtube: HOW TO RESTRING ECHO WEEDWACKER - YouTube
Turns out the John Deere head is similar to the Echo head and the release is about the same for both. Restringing is different, but at least I can get into the bugger now.
